History of Bendfare Hospital Ltd
Bendfare Hospital Ltd was founded in 2010 by Her Eminence, Ambassador Dr. Patricia Chika Nwankwo, a visionary healthcare expert and seasoned medical professional. Though the hospital began operations in 2010, it was officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2020. It was established with a clear vision: to provide high-quality, accessible, and compassionate healthcare services to the community.
The Origin of the Name “Bendfare”
The name “Bendfare” is a heartfelt acronym created from the names of Dr. Nwankwo’s children:
Ben – from Ebenezer
dre – from Chidiebere
F – from Ifeanyi
a – from Patricia, their mother
This name represents both a personal legacy and a commitment to holistic family-centered care.
Founding Inspiration
Dr. Nwankwo’s passion for medicine and service is deeply rooted in her family’s medical legacy. She comes from a lineage of healthcare professionals—her parents were among the early pioneers of medical practice in Aba, Abia State, operating one of the region’s most reputable clinics since the 1980s. Inspired by the legacy of her late mother, a dedicated healthcare trainer whose students went on to work in top institutions such as Shell Petroleum, Dr. Nwankwo envisioned a healthcare institution that would uphold the same values of excellence, compassion, and service.
Key Milestones and Contributions
Since its inception, Bendfare Hospital has achieved several notable milestones:
In 2021, it played a key role in the Rivers State Ministry of Health’s First Health Summit, with Dr. Nwankwo serving as a signatory to the communique, a member of the Local Organizing Committee, and part of the Welfare Team.
Establishment of the Bendfare Health Club, a registered NGO and pre-medical training platform aimed at mentoring aspiring doctors and healthcare professionals. Through seminars, workshops, and health missions, the club has participated in Afri Health Expos, medical conferences, and community outreach programs.
Recognition of Dr. Nwankwo as a Regional Leader for the Afri Health Foundation in Rivers State and her appointment as an Eminent Peace Ambassador and Global Diplomat by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA) in July 2023.
Leadership role as Deputy Director, Security Protection Officers of Nigeria (SPON), Rivers State Chapter.
Founder of the spiritual and humanitarian platform, “Special Breakfast and Dinner with the Lord”, which supports the less privileged through daily prayers, free food distribution, financial donations, and member welfare.
Educational Impact
Bendfare Hospital has made a significant impact on healthcare training, having mentored and trained numerous caregivers, nurse assistants, and students, many of whom have gained employment and scholarships abroad.
